(Bullwinkle v Brisbane Club, ANZAC Day 2002)
Early in April of 2002, the Club Bullwinkle High Command deemed ‘ill-advised’ any frontal assault on the Brisbane Club stronghold at Woolloongabba. Hence it was decided to subtly revise the mission objectives of the ANZAC Day match. Rather than achieve victory at the board, Club Bullwinkle’s aim was now simply to dress better than their opposition.
Uninformed of this prior to the event, the Brisbane Club was understandably over-awed by Club B’s new up-town image.

Rarely in the history of Queensland’s interclub competition has so much been staked on fashion. The quality of any chess played was deemed wholly irrelevant to the outcome of the contest.
